Yelverton was the son of Henry Yelverton, a lawyer, and his wife Margaret Beale, daughter of Robert Beale. He was grandson of Christopher Yelverton, who was Speaker of Parliament.〔(John Burke ''A General and heraldic dictionary of the peerage and baronetage Volume 1'' )〕 He was educated at Gray's Inn (1607) and Queen's College, Cambridge (1619), after which he spent several years touring Europe. He was created a baronet, of Easton Mauduit in the County of Northampton, on 30 June 1641.〔 Although not excluded under Pride's Purge he did not sit in parliament after 1648. Yelverton married Anne Twysden, daughter of Sir William Twysden, 1st Baronet.
